Bit Brigade – Presents: Castle Bandia CD
It's a shame that Bit Brigade is just a video-game tribute band. Their breakneck playing sounds like a world where amphetamines are hip again and the Mods have found a new sound that doesn't rewrite old blues tunes. That illusion is destroyed once you see the band playing live to a video screen as lightning-thumbed player Noah McCarthy takes assorted games through all their levels. There's still plenty of great music to be heard, though. Their Castle Bandia album named for the band's official alias when they're playing the soundtrack to Castlevania 3 plays as a collection of short instrumentals that sound like timeless punk-prog. Not every video-game tribute band can deliver that kind of intensity. It's kind of pleasant that Bit Brigade has enough contemporaries to provide a comparison. Birmingham City Paper
